Holbrook-Day 24 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song from a movie or video game. I chose the Main Theme from Schindler’s List. Written by John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Superman, Jaws…) and one of the greatest violinists ever, Itzhak Perlman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfLcfyR8viE&feature=youtu.be
Scoggins- I'll play today! I am a major movie buff. I LOVE movies. How much I love the music is directly related to how much I enjoy the film. John Williams is one of the best-loved film composers ever. Here is my pick. The Imperial March or Darth Vader's theme from Star Wars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bzWSJG93P8

Holbrook-Day 23 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song that reminds you of a friend. This song captures for me how special all of my friends have been at different points in my life. Thank you Carole King and James Taylor. https://youtu.be/7ySNPb9punk
They say dogs are "man's best friend." Watch this video and pose like the animals do to the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rBOLuc7Stk&feature=youtu.be Awesome video, Ms. Holbrook!

Ms. Holbrook-Day 22 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song that you wish you could play on an instrument. For this, I chose Elgar’s Cello Concerto. I am envious of my daughter because she can play this piece and she has performed it with an orchestra here in Georgia and overseas in the Czech Republic and in Austria. What an amazing feeling that must be! This was the recording that she used to listen to when she was 4 years old and telling us that she wanted to be a cellist when she grew up. https://youtu.be/OPhkZW_jwc0
Let's move and enjoy being alive! March it to the beat. See if you can follow directions. Can you come up with any other ideas of things to do with your hands?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GZCE9gbbRM

Ms. Holbrook-Day 21 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song that you think is beautiful. I chose Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Elgar. You may have heard this in some movies that you’ve seen in the past. It is simply stunning. https://youtu.be/sUgoBb8m1eE
Now that your heart is full from that gorgeous music, let's work it out to Gummi Bear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q7-tzCCh3w
One of my favorite dance breaks!

Ms. Scoggins- I used to live in Utah so for the song challenge today I chose the folk song, "Rocky Mountain." I learned this song when I lived there. Whenever I hear it, I think of my adventures in the west!

Ms. Holbrook-Day 20 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song that reminds you of a place you’ve been. I grew up in Texas, lived there for almost 20 years and love to go back to visit my homeland. I listened to Lyle Lovett and his Large Band performing That’s Right, You’re not From Texas. https://youtu.be/30nHX4ifn6o

Day 18 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song by an artist who’s no longer living. This one was easy for me. I chose Georgia on My Mind by the late, great musician who was born in Albany, GA, Ray Charles. While he did not write the song, his performance of this song as a favorite of many people. https://youtu.be/QL3EZwSJAh0
Ray Charles iconic picture is of him singing and playing piano. Have you ever wondered what is inside a piano? Take a video tour of one of the best piano companies in the world to learn how Steinway pianos are made! https://youtu.be/jAInt7hIZlU

Day 17 of the of Ms. Holbrook's 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song that pumps us up. It’s cliché but I can’t help but feel pumped up anytime I hear Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. https://youtu.be/FLZS3jQPnKw
Ms. Holbrook and I know how pumped you guys get to play instruments. Did you know you can access a keyboard online? There are many apps and websites. My website of choice is www.virtualpiano.net Use your mouse to press the keys that you'd like. I use it sometimes if I can't reach my piano to reference a pitch. Check it out for some fun!

Whitney Houston

Day 16 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song you think everyone should know. I think everyone living in our country should know the Star Spangled Banner. Some think that Whitney Houston sang it best when she performed it at the Super Bowl many years ago. https://youtu.be/KbkWuVUkPmY Others think it should only be performed according to the military standards like how the Marine Corps Band performs it. https://youtu.be/7wX8gFX_-fk
Speaking of Whitney Houston, she is definitely an iconic vocal artist. We are singing some Whitney at daily singalongs. Have you checked them out yet? We'd love to see you. Come sing with us! Open the Singalongs page of this website at 9:30 to get the link for the 10 am sing-a-long.

Ms. Holbrook's 30 Day Song Challenge is half-way done! How are you guys doing with it?
Day 15 of the of the 30 Day Song Challenge asks us to listen to a song from a county you’ve never been to. I chose a song/piece from France, Concertino for Flute by Cecile Chaminade. This piece is special to me because I played it for the state solo and ensemble competition during my senior year in high school and was accompanied by my high school band director who is a very talented pianist. This is a recording of one of the best flute players ever, James Galway and you can follow along with the music! https://youtu.be/jI-HcnEZjBs

Can you do your own Friday dance? Put on your favorite song and dance your cares away! Love you guys!
